Day 1: Slovenia / Ljubljana
Ljubljana is the small capital of Slovenia. The city is romantic, lively, full of attractions and rich in history with its amazing Castle dominating the centre. This seducing town is characterised by the typical market along the riverside and the extraordinary and innovative Liberty architecture dating from the Twenties and designed by the ecletic architect and town planner Jože Plečnik, whose talent is also represented by the National and University Library (NUK) and the Central Market (Centralna Tržnica). Curiosity: here you will find the “ternovcanka”, women arriving from a rural district just outside of Ljubljana with their carts loaded with vegetables. Since they are considered as a local attraction and as a “city monument”, they don’t have to pay any tax.

Day 2: Slovenia / Ljubljana – Postojna Cave - Predjama Castle (Km. 130)
Postojna Cave is a natural subterranean paradise, with many formations of calcite in the “Spaghetti Hall” and with the five-meter-high “Brilliant”, a white shining stalagmite which became the symbol of the Cave.

Curiosity: it’s the largest touristic cave in Europe, but at the same time it hosts the smallest cave in the world. The first official visitor entered the Cave 800 years ago and the cave houses the only subterranean post office in the world, since 1899. In the afternoon visit of the picturesque, imposing, mysterious and impregnable Predjama Castle, perched in a 123-metre-high cliff for more than 800 years.

Curiosity: behind the largest cave castle in the world, there is a network of hidden tunnels. The story goes that the knight and bandit Erazem used to pass through these tunnels for his plundering expeditions.

Day 3: Croatia / Plitvice National Park – Opatija (Km. 355)
The Plitvice National Park is the oldest and largest park in Croatia, added to the UNESCO World Heritage register due to the unique, highly valuable and extraordinarily beautiful process of sedimentation of limestone, which is responsible for the formation of tufa and of the many lakes. The only ways to move inside the park are by pathways, boats, ships and a small train. In the late afternoon transfer to Opatija.

Day 4: Croatia / Krk Island - Opatija (Km. 120)
The Krk Island is connected to the mainland via a bridge and is characterised by wonderful bays and coves, lots of islets, beaches with rocks and pebbles and sand, lush vegetation with pinewoods and oaks leading to the sea and finally the small fisher ports. In the afternoon return to Opatija, on the Kvarner Gulf. Also known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, the town developed around the Benedectine Abbey of Saint Jacob. The elegant Abbey dates back to the time of the European kings taking a rest in the romantic local villas. The Slatina Beach is the largest one in Opatija and is the place where the most important events of the town take place. It’s located in the city center, along the Walk of Fame.

Curiosity: around 10% of the country is protected by national parks.

Day 5: Croatia /Opatija –Krka Waterfalls - Split (Km. 400)
On our way to Split, stop en route at the Krka Waterfalls. With its 7 travertine waterfalls, Krka is a karst phenomenon within one of the most beautiful and visited national parks in Croatia, in the hinterland of Sibenik, in the northern Dalmatia.

Curiosity: as you can probably guess from the name “Dalmatian Coast”, the dog breed Dalmatians comes from Croatia. The splendid seaside town of Split is the Croatian town with the richest history. The Diocletian’s Palace is the most known attraction and it represents the old town. It’s not a single building, but an ancient compound with alleys and underground ways that lead to a court overlooking the sea. In the evening, return trip by boat.
